FAQ
Booking & payment
What does the price include?
The price covers the shoot itself, editing (colour correction and retouching) and the final digital photos, delivered as an online gallery where you can view them and download them in high resolution.
Each session package includes some extras, see more on the Booking page.
What's the difference between a posed and a documentary session?
In a documentary session, I join you at your event: a birthday dinner, a trip, a pre-planned walk or a picnic, a family reunion, your casual family day, etc. During that time I simply observe, documenting things as they happen.
In a posed session, I lead: you pose for the camera with my direction.
What session length should I choose?
For posed sessions, the best lengths are:
- 2 hours: if this is your first time or you want to keep it simple. Also for newborn, motherhood and sessions with grown children
- 4 hours: if you feel confident and want to shoot a few separate looks, or if you intend to photograph more than two people together and separately
For documentary sessions:
- 2 hours: a small event (such as a children's birthday), a pre-planned short walk in the city or a picnic in the park
- 4 hours: the standard event length, family gatherings, a short trip or hike, and so on
- 9 hours: a documentary of your whole day at home, in the countryside or anywhere else, just you, with the one you love or the whole family squad
How do I book?
You can book through the booking page on this website, or via WhatsApp or Instagram.
- Pick your preferred date from the available slots and fill in your details.
- You'll receive an email confirming your request has been received.
- The same or next day I'll call or message you on WhatsApp to agree the date, time, location and clothing, and answer any questions you have.
- You'll then get a confirmation email with a link to pay the deposit. Once that's paid, your date and time are secured.
- If you want help choosing outfits before the shoot, message me. I like that part.
What's a "portfolio discount"?
The portfolio discount is 10% off your current session and one future session (any type or length), in return for permission to use a few photos from the current session in my portfolio.
I select 5 photos per shooting hour and send them to you for review first; if there's one you'd rather swap for another, just say so. These photos may appear on my website or Instagram page. It's completely optional, though greatly appreciated.
How far in advance should I book?
Have a look at the booking page — it shows which dates are already taken, so you'll get a sense of how busy the calendar is. Popular slots (weekends, the run-up to holidays) go first, so if you have a specific date in mind, sooner is better.
Where can I read some reviews about you?
I prefer to gather them on my Google profile. Take a look, someone may have left a review about exactly the kind of session you're after.
How does payment work?
A 50% deposit secures your date and time. I'll send you the payment details via WhatsApp or email, and once the deposit arrives you'll get a confirmation with a receipt. The remaining 50% is paid at the end of the session, by cash or bank transfer.
What's the reschedule and cancellation policy?
You can reschedule once for free if you give me at least 48 hours' notice, and your deposit moves to the new date. Bad weather on an outdoor shoot and illness are also free to move (see the next question).
If you reschedule with less than 48 hours' notice, or don't show up, you lose the deposit. Deposits are non-refundable, but you can always put one towards a new date within six months.
What if we need to reschedule because of the weather or sickness?
Bad weather on an outdoor shoot costs you nothing. I'll make the call the day before or on the morning, and we'll pick another date. Same with illness: tell me as soon as you know and we'll find a day that works. For anything else, the rescheduling policy above applies.
What happens if the photographer has to cancel?
I'll offer you another suitable date or a full refund — your choice.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes. On the booking page, enter your own details and add a note that it's a gift for someone else. We'll go over the recipient's details separately, and I'll arrange a digital or printed voucher for you. Vouchers are valid for 9 months and can be for any session length you prefer.
Your session: what happens and how to get ready
Before the session
What's your shooting style?
The best way to know is to browse the galleries — they'll give you a general idea of what to expect. If you want the short version: natural and relaxed, with a bit of warm nostalgia.
You can also read about my background and what inspires me on the About page.
What should I know about shooting in a studio?
Arrive early, fifteen minutes is ideal. The studio clock starts at the booked time, same as the session, and you'll want those minutes to change and fix your hair and makeup.
After that, enjoy it!
If you've booked a longer session, bring a few different looks. The studio suits a wide range of moods, and it's a shame to use it for just one.
Is studio hire included in the price?
No. The studio charges its own rental fee, which is to be paid to them directly. I do the booking and the arranging, you bring cash or make a bank transfer on the day.
Studios in Dublin usually cost €70–90 an hour. If you're after a particular look, renting a hotel room or an apartment can work too.
Can we do a mix of studio and outdoor, or shoot at my home?
Sure. Combining two or more locations works well for documentary sessions, say a day out as a couple or family, a celebration and so on.
For posed sessions I'd suggest splitting them over two separate days. Being tired shows in the photos, and it doesn't help the results.
Do you travel? Is there a charge for shooting outside your area?
Anywhere in County Dublin is included. Outside that, I charge a travel fee based on the distance, and we agree it before the shoot.
I don't know what to wear, or which location I want.
We can approach it a few ways:
- You have a style reference: we go through your wardrobe together and pick an outfit to match it.
- You know what to wear but not where, or the other way round. I send you some references and we narrow them down.
- Browse my galleries: each one includes location suggestions and the clothing styles that work best there.
- You have no idea about either: we talk about the mood you want to express and choose the location and your style together.
Do you provide hair and makeup?
Not at the moment, so please come camera-ready, whatever makes you feel your best.
If you'd like a professional touch, you're very welcome to bring your own stylist or makeup artist along, and I'll happily work around them on set.
For studio sessions, remember to arrive a little early to allow time for touch-ups.
How many people can I bring? Do you shoot groups, kids, pets?
Put the number of people on the booking form. For documentary sessions, bring the whole family, pets included, as long as we allow enough time for everyone to get their moment.
Posed sessions need more planning, so talk the group through with me beforehand. A friend along for moral support is always welcome.
One thing to note: most studios cap the number of people per room.
Do you photograph newborns and maternity?
Yes. I prefer to capture newborns as lifestyle sessions: no staging or props, ideally at your home. I'd suggest waiting until the baby is at least a month old, when they're more alert and settled and you've had a chance to recover.
Maternity sessions work beautifully in the studio or outdoors, or we can arrange a cosy at-home session instead.
Session day
What happens during the session?
Please arrive about 15 minutes before your start time: I'll already be there. That gives you time to drop your things, get a feel for the place and have a chat with me before the camera comes out, which does more for how relaxed you look than anything I can do later.
If it's a posed session, once we start, I'll guide the posing, the timing and where we move around the area, so you don't need to worry about anything else.
If it's a documentary session, just proceed with your plans and don't worry about me.
What if I'm running late?
The session starts at the agreed time. You're welcome to arrive later and we'll carry on, but the end time stays the same and the session isn't extended.
I'm awkward in front of a camera.
And that's okay, knowing how to pose is a job in itself. I can direct the whole thing: where to stand, what to do with your hands, how to tilt your head.
Or I'll give you a starting pose and you move from there however feels natural. Don't stress about it. You'll be grand, and that's a promise.
Can I take behind-the-scenes photos or video on my phone during the session?
Of course, behind-the-scenes makes great extra content. If you'd like a tripod for your phone, let me know and I'll pack one. And if you tag me in your post or story, it will definitely make my day.
What if my child gets upset or won't cooperate?
It happens, and it's fine. For babies, feed them just before the session and keep the room warm. For older kids, the same goes for feeding — and bring something to distract them or a small activity for breaks. If you think an extra pair of hands would help, bring someone along.
Can I extend the session on the day?
Having a great time and want another hour? Let's go. I plan my days with a decent gap between sessions, so if my schedule allows, I'm happy to keep going. Extra time is charged at €380 per hour.
Photos and editing
How and when do I get the photos?
Editing takes up to 10 business days, counting from the day after the shoot. You'll then get a link to your online gallery, where you can view the finished photos and download them in high resolution. In busy periods it can take a little longer, and if so, I'll tell you in advance.
How many finished images do I get?
Roughly 20–25 photos per hour of shooting. So about 40–50 for a two-hour session, 80–100 for four hours, and 160–200 for a full day.
Every image gets a professional by-hand retouch and my artistic style color correction.
Can I choose which photos get edited?
During the shoot I'll regularly show you playback of what we've taken. If there are particular ones you love, tell me and I'll make sure they're in the final selection. Beyond that, leave the choosing to me — I promise you'll be looking your best.
What exactly is retouching?
Retouching means refining skin tone and removing small blemishes, dark circles, stray hairs, fabric creases etc. I perform a professional-grade retouch on every image by hand, no generic AI filters.
The objective is to emphasise the beauty of your natural features while gently removing the temporary distractions (such as pimples, scratches, redness) that won't be there next week anyway.
Do I get colour or black & white?
All final images get colour correction, which is a powerful tool for giving some special atmosphere to the photo. I prefer to add a touch of warm nostalgia through analogue, soft film-like colours with a delicate grainy finish.
As a bonus, you'll also get a separate folder of black & white versions — a selection I make myself, picking the ones that suit it best.
I want my photos as soon as possible. Can you just send me the unedited RAW files?
No — RAW files are unfinished, intermediate material and I only release completed work under my name. If you're genuinely in a hurry, I offer a rush option: up to 5 edited photos delivered by the end of the next day, at €75 per photo.
What if I'm not happy with the photos?
Tell me. Whatever the reason, we'll talk it through and I'm happy to look at some re-editing. I can't offer a refund for completed work, though.
Where can I use the final images?
Portrait, couple and family sessions include a personal-use licence: you can print, frame and share your photos, use them on social media, LinkedIn and your personal website. If you want to use them to promote a business, for a third party, for stock, or in a larger campaign, get in touch and I'll quote a licence. I keep the copyright on all images, so please don't edit them or add filters, and credit me where practical.
Do you offer prints or wall art?
Yes. Pick the photos you love most and I'll have them produced as high-quality prints or wall art (priced by size). Some session packages come with prints already included.
You can also browse my online print shop, which has a selection of work from my travels across Ireland and mainland Europe — you just might find some of your favourite places there.
I lost my copy of the gallery. Can you send it again?
Your online gallery stays live for 2 months after delivery, so please download your copy within that time. I keep a backup for a further 7 months, during which you can request the photos again. After 9 months from the shoot date the photos are permanently deleted and cannot be restored.
How do you handle my images and data?
Your images are stored on my own private drives for 9 months after the session, then permanently deleted. I never share your photos with anyone without your consent.
